This presentation explores the strategic trajectory of Tenova’s ultra-large EAF technology, beginning with the landmark 2022 commissioning at Acciaierie Arvedi, Italy. As the most productive EAF worldwide, producing 2.9Mt/yr, the Arvedi project served as a definitive proof of concept for high-tonnage electric steelmaking. The success of this reference has catalysed a global series of capital investments, with major producers including POSCO (Korea), Nippon Steel (Japan), and Tata Steel (UK) selecting similar technological platforms to spearhead their green transition also in the production of high-quality steel grades such as IF and electric steel.
A primary focus of this session will be the new flagship installation for Ternium in Mexico, scheduled for startup in November 2026. We will present the rationale behind this large-scale capital investment, which aims to secure a leading position in the North American automotive steel market.
